Can't help but notice it's been a couple of days without anyone talking about murder. Are we all feeling alright?

People can feel perfectly all right and still have a civil conversation about murder.

Makes one rather curious about the lives we left behind, doesn't it?

Doesn't it just. I'm starting to get the impression a good number of people here came from much more elaborate lives than me, and I thought mine was weird enough.

For elaborate read lawless and/or dangerous.

Lawless and/or dangerous still sounds rather broad to me. Although speaking for myself, mine favours the latter.

[ ...with a dash of the former. But she's not saying that. ]

Well, there's a broad range of experience here. And I'm sure it does.

A society can't thrive if everyone brings much of the same to the table, I suppose. Perhaps that's why the murder talk has died down.

I would've claimed responsibility for that one, it was good. [ the pun ] But yeah maybe. There's only so many loud-mouthed murderers one merry band of refugees can sustain before things start getting boring and it's time for a topic shift.

And what, pray tell, would be a suitable change of subject? I'd hate to see what the step above murder might be. We'll move on from mildly concerned to a sort of gentle alarm and then where will we be?
