Is it just me or are things starting to get a little unpleasant around here?

[She sighs out some. Not that she hadn't expected Olympia and Wyver to start not getting along again of course but it's still pretty annoying.]

I've been outright ignored in a few places in Olympia. Don't ask me exactly what I did to get that kind of treatment because I don't have a clue.

[Now to the meat of why she's drifted onto the network after having not touched it for this long. Her tone actually sounds pretty curious.]

Have any of the rest of you run into anything? Olympia, Wyver, wherever.

[ It doesn't seem stupid at all. With everything they knew gone, it only makes sense to settle in somewhere you feel comfortable. Now he's got a thread to pull on, though. ]

How so?

The color scheme, the level of pride they have in themselves. Not that the pride is necessarily a good thing but there was a lot of that back at home too. We had stories of dragons too, though they were all gone by the time I was born. Seeing them here is sort of like seeing the past.

Dragons were pretty much only in stories where I'm from.

[ 76 isn't going to count spirit dragons, just for the sake of simplicity. ]

But yeah, that amount of pride is the kind of thing that can get people into trouble. I'm guessing the Wyver people won't take kindly to anyone they think is aligned with Olympia, either.

[ It goes both ways. ]

Probably not. If it's happening in one town, it's bound to be happening in the other. Not to mention that pride thing.

In my world, dragons are said to be the original fire benders and taught humans how to bend, so the stories go.

[Of course, she doubts her knows what she means by benders so she tacks on:]

Benders are people who can manipulate different elements - earth, fire, air or water. I'm from the Fire Nation so I'm more acquainted with fire benders.

[ It helps that Mai simply explains the concept of bending before 76 has to ask. Control over the elements, huh? And more than that, it seems that different nations are associated with different elements. ]

More acquainted, but not one yourself?

[ Control over fire seems like it would be both very powerful and very dangerous, though he appreciates that Mai doesn't call any of it "magic," at least. It makes it a little easier to swallow somehow. ]

None of my family are. It's not an uncommon thing though.

Is it something that usually passes through bloodlines?

Sort of? There's usually a better chance a person may be a bender if one of their parents or grandparents were. That doesn't mean you'll never find a bender in a largely nonbender family or vice versa.

To be honest, it's not something I've thought a lot about. People just are or aren't benders.

[ In that case, it sounds like it's at least partly based in genetics, but it sounds like it's something that wasn't questioned all that closely back in Mai's world. ]

Are you the only one awake from your world?

[ Or is there a chance he could see this bending firsthand? ]

There's a guy named Tarrlok here who's from my world... well, the future of it anyhow. He's a waterbender.

[ The name rings a bell, and 76 is silent for a few moments as he tries to place it. Eventually it comes to him. ]

He's the one who wanted to try and organize the refugees, wasn't he? Anything ever come of that?

[ 76 hadn't wanted to get anywhere near that idea, but there's nothing wrong with asking a second party. ]

I'm not sure. He spoke to me about it too and he seemed to have solid ideas for it. I'm not really interested yet.

Prefer to do things your own way?

I'm not much of a follower, let's just say that. Unless the leader is sensible.

[That said, she adds:]

Not that Tarrlok isn't but I don't see much worth in going off by ourselves just yet when all we know of this place is Olympia, Wyver and their love-hate relationship.

Kinda makes you wonder what else is out there, though, doesn't it?

[ There must be more to this planet, but so far there's been no way for them to access any other regions. ]

Hopefully it's more than just wilderness and invisible creatures.

I get the feeling we'll get to find out, eventually.
