[ the video clicks on to a soft beep that ends in a worried trill, the sound mechanical and still managing to seem hushed. for a moment, the camera swings around, then it steadies, showing poe dameron in workout gear, hands and ankles taped, pummeling a punching bag. it's clear he knows what he's doing. it's equally clear that he's unhappy about something.

poe is clearly unaware of the video; this is bb-8's way of trying to get poe some company and comfort. there's a series of beeps that indicates as much, to anyone who understands binary.

eventually, poe stops, steadying the bag (and himself) and then glances at bb-8 -- and the comms device bb-8 is still pointing at him. poe runs a hand through his hair. ]

What're you doing that for, BB?

[ another series of noises from bb, i'm worried and maybe you shouldn't be alone right now. poe shakes his head, crossing the distance to bb-8 and holds out a hand. ] I'm all right, buddy. Give that here.

[ when bb-8 does, the video cuts off. ]

I usually love it.

[ he dug himself this hole. and she seems -- not pushy about it, just curious. he can deal with that. ] But right now, I'm not at my best and I didn't want to put that on anyone.

[ just wait, poe. she'll be coming in with a lot of questions because that is the type of android she is. ]

I see. Is it okay to ask why you are not at your best? I assume something has happened, but what?

poe lifts a hand to run through his (already messy) hair. ]

I found out someone from my world went back into stasis. [ on top of a whole lot of other people he'd gotten to know here. it's -- he knows everyone's dealing with the same thing, which is why he hadn't wanted to put that on anyone else. but he's still frustrated, sad, angry.

loss is never an easy thing, even if this one may be temporary. ]

[ an awkward topic to talk about. on the plus side, she is able to relate to what he is feeling at the moment. the only downside is a2 doesn't know if her choice of words will be okay. ]

Someone I know returned to stasis. Nothing was wrong with him ... I think. I'm sure that there is nothing to worry about, just standard procedure if someone is unwell.

[ poe doesn't respond immediately, mulling her words over for a moment before he sighs. ]

I hope so. [ but he's not sure. after a beat: ] I'm sorry about your friend.

He isn't a friend. He is only someone that is from my world and is like me.

It's not a useless skill to have here. Or in general. Unless you know a good tailor or have a lot of clothes, I guess.

I know none and I own neither. I don't have any need for clothing, or at least I haven't until recently.

You don't usually wear clothes?

[ that's fine, he can respect that, it's just that she looks pretty close to human and he figures it might raise an eyebrow or two if she's walking around naked. ]

I fail to need them due to losing the skin around my breast and in other sections of my body. I only require pants.

Yes, fitting in and maybe getting less questions about myself.

Not that I mind them, but repeating myself can be tiring from time to time.
