[ the video clicks on to a soft beep that ends in a worried trill, the sound mechanical and still managing to seem hushed. for a moment, the camera swings around, then it steadies, showing poe dameron in workout gear, hands and ankles taped, pummeling a punching bag. it's clear he knows what he's doing. it's equally clear that he's unhappy about something.

poe is clearly unaware of the video; this is bb-8's way of trying to get poe some company and comfort. there's a series of beeps that indicates as much, to anyone who understands binary.

eventually, poe stops, steadying the bag (and himself) and then glances at bb-8 -- and the comms device bb-8 is still pointing at him. poe runs a hand through his hair. ]

What're you doing that for, BB?

[ another series of noises from bb, i'm worried and maybe you shouldn't be alone right now. poe shakes his head, crossing the distance to bb-8 and holds out a hand. ] I'm all right, buddy. Give that here.

[ when bb-8 does, the video cuts off. ]

I could definitely eat, so we should do it together. Want to meet at the station?

Wait, is it rude to eat in front of a robot that can't eat? Is it a robot or is there a better term? Can he hear me? Should I say hi? Hi. ( do not nerd out status: failure........ )

[ there's a smile in poe's voice when he answers. ]

It's not rude to eat in front of him, he's a droid, and yes, he can hear you. [ a series of beeps and whistles. ] And he says hi back. He'd love to meet you.

[ bb-8's plan to make sure that poe doesn't deal with this on his own seems successful, so of course the droid is pushing this. ]

Droid. Got it. BB, was it? Is that short for something?

( that droid is literally the cutest thing he's ever seen and that's saying a lot because he's witnessed some stellar cat compilation videos on YouTube. )

I'd like to meet him, too. So, the station? I can meet you guys at the cafeteria.

[ it's true. bb-8 is cute and amazing and poe loves his droid with all his heart. even if bb is also a meddling little shit. ]

Give me ten minutes to take a shower first?

( peter scratches a spot under his eye, which doesn't perfectly disguise the slight blush. well, he tried. )

Sure. I'll see you then. You, too.

( that time he was talking to BB-8. )

[ are you blushing because you just imagined poe in the shower, peter? ]

[ it is, and poe's good at being there for others, but he's not quite as good at accepting others being there for him, too. at accepting that he needs that sometimes, too.

he's working on it and he knows bb-8 is right, but that doesn't mean no thanks are due. ]

( while he could battle the gratitude, Peter decides not to. in the end Poe agreed to let himself have some support. he doesn't need to thank Peter for it, and Peter definitely believes that... but if it makes it easier? as someone who struggles with taking help when he needs it, too, Peter isn't going to make it any harder. )

It's not a problem, but only if I see you soon.

( yeah. he's throwing down conditions. and he will be there first and waiting, Poe! )

[ poe appreciates the company, even just the offer. he appreciates that they're close enough that he can take peter up on it without worrying that this'll be the first time they'll see each other since that kiss. ]

But I really need that shower first. Trust me, I smell.

While I can handle BO, I appreciate your desire not to inflict it on me. So shower first, and I'll try and find food in the meantime.

( as long as he doesn't have to cook it... things should be fine. )
