[ poe smiles when the video clicks on, friendly more than cheerful, given everything that's been going on. his hair is more tousled even than usual, and there's some sweat making his skin shine. ]

I grew up on a planet covered in jungle. [ for a moment, his smile grows warmer, if a little wistful. ] I figure not everyone here did, so it might be useful to share some tips.

First of all, water and food. There's plenty of both, but you gotta be careful. Best bet is to boil the water if it looks dingy, sometimes even if it doesn't. Stick to plants you know or someone's told you are safe for gathering those. If you're hunting, best avoid animals that are very colorful.

If you see a large animal and you're not actively hunting it and prepared to kill it, your best bet is probably to back away quietly and slowly. Oh, and watch out for insects. We don't know how many species here may be poisonous or carrying disease.

[ a beat, and his expression turns regretful. ] The last thing we need is for more people to get sick.

There's plenty civilization here. Unless you know how to handle yourself, maybe just stay in the city. But if you do find yourself in the jungle, be careful, all right?


( ooc: poe did grow up in the jungle, i know nothing about jungle living, so if anything is obviously wrong, please point it out to me and assume poe wouldn't have made stupid mistakes, ty )

I've been trying to help out as much as I can. This whole thing just — [ he breaks off, shaking his head, not quite wanting to put his disgust into words. ]

Are you still healthy, though?

[inaurare]

It is.

[if he focusses too much on it, he will only get angry and upset - and that won't help anyone.]

I am all right, yes. The doctors have us take precautions, but it's just... with the new turns the illness is taking, the bleeding... it's alarming.

[xwings]

Yeah. In the beginning, I'd still been hopeful that people will get better instead of worse, but it's not looking good, is it?

[inaurare]

It's not.

[and it's the first time he's said as much. Yes, it's concerning, worrying, but as the illness wears on it is hard not to give into those feelings. He knows, though, that if this sickness is to work itself through... it won't end well, and that thought is looming larger and larger in his mind these days, harder to tuck away the more that it grows]

It's hard to remain... hopeful. Right now we can only make sure they're not in discomfort or pain but that is hard, too.

[It's difficult to see, but his own discomfort doing so is secondary, right now.]

[xwings]

I know.

[ poe finds it increasingly difficult, too. ] But we gotta do what we can.

[inaurare]

There's no space for our own doubts and discomforts at the moment. We just... we shall see how things go.

[and do anything to be done to affect how things play out.]

And hopefully we - all of us - will be able to look back on this with a sigh of relief.

[xwings]

Yeah. For now, I just hope the change in weather won't make things even worse for people.

[ poe might be able to handle the heat and humidity, but that doesn't mean everyone is. ]

Their temperatures were already elevated enough.

[Linneus isn't sure the wisdom of bring them to warmer climes either, but...]

But we're doing what we can for them - a gentleman was able to make a medicine that will help, in that regard.

[xwings]

[ poe's not well-versed when it comes to medical stuff, certainly not beyond first aid, but he figures the high temperatures can't help. ]

Yeah? I hadn't heard of that. Who made it?

[inaurare]

Mr Xavier did - he was kind enough to show it to me. And it's with the doctors, now, so it can help.

Only... some are refusing food now, as well.

[xwings]

I don't think I know him. But that's good. The cure. Not the food thing.

[inaurare]

I don't know that one can say "cure"...

[is it a cure, really, to just treat symptoms as they pop up? Or is it just putting out fires?]

But perhaps a step toward one?

[it's a weak hope, though. Nothing seems... positive, right now]

[xwings]

Ah.

[ and here poe had felt a moment of hope. ]

I'll keep my fingers crossed, then.
