today, i got to wondering:
what kind or thoughtful thing has someone done for you recently?

I am familiar with them now, unfortunately. Stubborn things. [ But perhaps not so bad with 10 fingers with which to pull them off. ] Do they bother you often?

i suppose it's not too bad, if i mind my step,
but it's a truth that i don't really care to mind it.
sometimes you're thinking about other things, you know?

last week, i got it for my daydreaming, because i ended up
with a whole bunch stuck all along me. i didn't notice at the time
but it was troublesome after.

a woman who was tired from a long work day saw me on her
way home and she stopped and sat with me and helped me pluck them free.

Ah, I understand... Oftentimes I'll be watching something, and a bicycle or umbrella might splash water on me. It's unfortunate, but these things happen. [ Though his problem is a lack of self-awareness... still, relatable. ]

That was very generous of her, though. Perhaps a mark of true kindness is a gesture offered when one is low in spirits themselves.

do you think there are kindnesses that are less true?
or not true at all?

I think the world is filled with unfathomable kindness. Just as I believe there are kindly people who are so much less than they seem. They both come in enough forms that it is difficult to tell one from the other, sometimes.

have you encountered a deceptively kind person?


[She knows they exist. This is more her way to read more, to get to know this Fox better.]

The people I've met here thus far seem genuine. But in the past, yes. I knew both sides of the coin intimately.
I'm not sure anyone can navigate life without running into that sort of ugliness.

i do not think so either, unfortunately.
the important thing is to not add to the collection of deceptive kindness

Let's see... a man forgave me for being rude. A woman told me about a person she loved in such glowing terms I could almost feel her affection for myself. I met someone who dedicated her life to protecting others. And another called me a friend.

What drove you to ask in the first place? [ Maybe it's just an attempt at small talk, but he's still curious. ]

i feel as if i've encountered a lot of people who
are hurting, or think there's no space for light, or feel separated,
and i wanted them to try their best to think back on a little instance
when things were the opposite of those.

do you think it's asking for too much?

Not at all.

When one spends their time in persistent loneliness and darkness, they can be blind to life beyond that———that they deserve more. [ That people deserve kindness, goodness, justice, however unused to it they are. ]

Sometimes people are due for a reminder of such things. It can be easy to forget.

it was my hope to prompt them.
being able to "listen" to their examples was only secondary.

When I sat alone, I was greeted by someone who would share their flowers and warmth with me.

It is not unlike the woman who took your burrs. Someone who had someplace better to be, perhaps, than by my side.

maybe they were where they were meant to be at that particular time?

Do you think so?

I couldn't help but think that perhaps they were more at place in the heart of things. I am but an observer much of the time.

life's meant for living, you know.
i've seen people miss out on so much, because they only wanted to observe.
and observing isn't bad. once, i was stuck doing this, in a way.
not that i minded.

am i making much sense?
don't miss out, all right? be an observer, but remind yourself to experience things, as well.
i don't want you to blink and realize too many opportunities went by.
