Occurred to me just now, and by just now I mean I'm bored and it's occurred to me before but I've been storing it up for an opportune moment, that there's a lot of you to whom I still haven't introduced myself! And since introducing myself can sometimes be a bit of a palaver, I'm going to go ahead and get through as many of you as I can with this one quick broadcast. Right. Here we go. Ready? Ready.

Hi! Hello. I'm the Doctor. Yes, the Doctor, not a doctor, though I'm one of those too, in many disciplines, none of them medical. Can still probably save you from losing a leg if I can get my hands on the right alien tech, though. Bit of a jack of all trades. Space and time travelling alien, to get that bit out of the way while we're at it. Two hearts. Legs. Okay? Okay.

While I'm here, let's play a getting to know you game. Yeah? [ a pause, in which he's waiting for an answer that he— apparently receives? from who, your guess is as good as mine. ] Hah hah. Yeah. Good. Getting to know you through the age old medium of word association! This is either going to be great fun or get very boring very quickly, so we'll see how it goes. It's the extended edition, rules are slightly different: for every word you give, you have to explain the link from the last one. However obvious.

Floor-Merlin. I hyphenated it, just to be clear! I chose that after train, because that's where I encountered a Floor-Merlin, which is apparently a normal thing that he does. Everyone says so.

Fish. Fish because you said Floor-Merlin and I thought water Merlin but I was actually thinking of a marlin which isn't quite the same but then I remembered the dad in Finding Nemo, so. Safe.

Wait, wait. Just to be clear, is your word Fish or is it Safe? It's just, you said Safe with a bit of finality there, so it's sort of hard to grasp if you meant that as your word instead of fish.

Oh good. Okay then, I'm going to say Melon. That's because when I think fish, I think ocean. Then I think of how a lot of us all coincidentally decided to go to the ocean at the same time and that there just happened to be a beach party, where people were viciously attacking melons for no discernible reason.

Anyway: Ball. The next word's ball. Boring link compared to the last one, but there's nothing quite like sitting with a melon and a scoop on the front step of your space ship, circling a sun, chilling out and chowing down on a melon ball or two.

Well, it's not quite the normal games I like to play, but it is catching. Oh!

That's my word. Catching, which is the sort of thing you want to make sure you do right when something is tossed at you, such as a ball, a cabbage, or a sword.

Do you know, I've managed to miss catching everything on that list at least half as many times as I've had them thrown at me. Not always been the best catcher.

Wife to box. That's less weird than it sounds, I promise you. I've— I had. A spaceship. Shaped like a box. We've been together a long, long time, it's basically the same thing.

Doesn't sound that weird. My carriage is shaped like a box. It's a very practical shape.

Dragon. A box is what my dragon sleeps in. I've got a little towel in there for him to rest on. He's very fond of the arrangement.
