[ Settled into a corner of one of the smaller cafes that dot the Entertainment District, David sips on a mug of something warm and fragrant as he works on gathering his thoughts. He’s still wearing Cassian’s jacket, which he’s yet to return, but otherwise seems to be in good spirits despite a small lizard-like creature doing its best to gnaw on his fingers. ]

So, I figure this might be a shot in the dark — or maybe I’m better off looking around the Station — but I was wondering if there was any information available on the local celestial bodies, constellations, charts, that kind of thing.

It’s been awhile since I studied.

[ Years, honestly, but anything has got to be better than sitting around at the starter housing, twiddling his thumbs and waiting for inspiration to strike. That and there was a lot to be learned from things like this, from the names and the stories people spun around their stars and planets. ]

Don’t want to get rusty.

Figured as much. What they have here is probably a little more on the antiquated side.

[ Worth taking a look at sure, but more out of academic curiosity than any expectation of accuracy. ]

If nothing else it'll give me an excuse to practice teleporting.

It has nothing to do with the stigma of drinking.

[ Briefly, Charles lapses into silence. He doesn't like talking about his long period of depression before he relaxes. ]

Drinks will be fine. Though I might not know where to go.

Well, then we're both in trouble. [ David sounds more amused than anything, though. ]

Tell you what: I live in house 71. Give me...say an hour, let's see what I can turn up on the drinking front and if all else fails we do a café instead.

I remember hearing something about that.

Guess it makes sense. Can't exactly do what you're meant to if the room's packed full of people.

What did you do before the Storm?

I was studying astronomy.

[ Admittedly there'd been some time between college and now, the knowledge tucked away in mothballs, waiting. ]

Not exactly a money-maker, before. Probably not much of one now but it's what I know.

You most certainly will.

Well that depends on whether you want charts professionally done or not. Or if you are just looking for something to occupy yourself with. Though I'm sure it will do one little harm to know how the constellations are laid and what they are truly called...!

[a light chuckle at the creature as it is held up.]

He's quite handsome. Perhaps he wishes you to make a pet out of him?

If you lose that jacket, you'll be paying with it with something other than silver.

[Despite the humor in his heavily accented voice, Cassian is not kidding.]

The station would be easier if they weren't delaying our access to the observation room. I'll see what I can dig up in the meantime. You'll have a better view from up there, though. Clearer, if a bit more constrained.

You could start approximating a chart, something to compare against later on in the next season.

Hey, you want it back so badly you're more than welcome to come and take it. [ Likewise there is a twist of humor as he says it, lifting his mug in a sort of mock salute to the screen. ]

I suppose appealing to their better nature isn't going to help? [ It's a rhetorical question, though he's not above humbling himself if he must. ]

Seems like that might be where this is headed. Think I might still try the Institute as well. See if I won't have more luck there. It'll at least give me somewhere to start.

Have you been to the library yet?

Not likely. Seems we will have to build some trust up before we can make those kind of negotiations.

[He can do that. They can do that. Assuming neither of them makes a mistake they will come to regret.]

What institute? [Cassian's focus has been on the overall world so much, he hasn't paid much attention to individual establishments yet. At least his roommate seems to be useful in gathering extra information on his own. Between the two of them, they'll soon have this place worked out.

Good point. [ David rubs at his chin, expression turning thoughtful. ] Right now I guess it comes down to what's more important: making bank or keeping busy.

[ And, if he's lucky, finding a solution that allows him to do both. ]

Isn't he? [ The lizard seems unconcerned with its sudden network debut, though David sets it down again after a moment before it can become uncomfortable. ] There's a bunch of them here. I think it might be some kind of thing for them.

I do, indeed. [ There's a definite smile as he says it, the kind of smile that crinkles the corners of your eyes; warm and genuine. ]

The kind of thing you can hear once and never forget as long as you live.

Not yet, though this isn't the first time I've had it recommended. Assuming you're talking about the one at the Institute?

Well, I guess that makes sense. You don't exactly let just anyone loose in a room with that kind of equipment just because they say please.

[ It's disappointing, sure, but he'll get over it.

His fingers beat out a rhythm against the tabletop, ] Some kind of research place or university by the sound of things. A— [ he pauses briefly, lower lip threading through his teeth. Can he really consider Charles a friend? ] — a friend recommended trying the library there.

Perhaps it is the heat they are attracted to? Or something in your home.

Were you knowledgable about the stars of your world, then?
