do you think theyd let us have a beach party here? if I find a place to do it, everyone is invited!

A lot of people, apparently, since there was professors and students practicing something recorded in present time as a "dead language".
I mean you're obviously trying to make a point and I'll give you that, but it also proves that you need to keep studying.

you cant really study foreign languages or literature if the planet blew up

But if you're able to admit that then that means you're aware that you need to keep up.
Also being on a new planet just means you'll have to learn their literature, or at least their history.
