The Aqours Spooky Get Yohane Magical Powers Halloween Extravaganza is later this week! Fallen Angel Yohane and Little Demon You have put together a wonderful Halloween party, at [ insert ic date here ] and located at [ insert address to a restaurant in Olympia here. ] There'll be spooky snacks, spooky ambiance, and all the perfect Halloween party games! Bobbing for apples, carving pumpkins, one of those 'reach your hand in and feel the eyeballs' sort of boxes...we're gonna hit all the highlights!

You-chan and I did a really good job with the decorations and getting this place perfectly spooky, so at least stop by to take a look at everything. That being said, if anybody wants to donate some pumpkins or some food or anything like that, we won't say no! [ pause ] Oh, and the place is letting us use their event room on the promise that they'll make a lot in drink sales, so everybody's gotta order a drink, okay? You can get...I don't know, mozzarella sticks if you don't drink. Those are Yohane approved!

I dunno...your teeth are pretty scary but other than that, you're kind of cute.

[ says the person who has literally met one goblin and therefore does not have a negative perception of them like the rest of d&d land would have ]

Cute? That's... a very nice thing to say, but I know what I look like. You don't have to mince words around me.

I'm not mincing words, [ Yoshiko says, like it's obvious. ]

You're short, you've got big ol'eyes, and you've got fun ears. That makes you cute.

Oooh, you know what would make you super cute, though? If we put your hair up! Have you ever worn pigtails, you'd look adorable with pigtails.

[flask]

I... I'm not...

[Nott sputters a bit. She's never had someone call her cute before, and certainly not with her goblinoid traits as evidence. She flushes a darker green.]

I've never worn my hair in pigtails, no...

[She's never done anything with her hair, really.]

[hellzone]

[ this is when Nott learns the concept of 'chibi' ]

After the party, we can have a girl's bonding session. I'll put your hair up in pigtails or teach you how to braid it and we can...I don't know, talk about our crushes or things like that.

[flask]

[Nott laughs thinly, still dark green.]

That isn't... Hanging out and bonding, we can do that, and you can do my hair, that's fine. I like you, but I don't...

I don't have crushes, Yohane. It's just not something I get to do.

[hellzone]

[ Yoshiko...doesn't get it. ]

What d'you mean 'it's not something you get to do'?

[Nott makes a frustrated noise.]

I'm not a person that gets to... dream about relationships, because I know they won't happen to me. I'm a goblin. People don't love goblins. They don't want to be anywhere near people like me.

[hellzone]

[ Yoshiko's about to say wait, you're a halfling...but then she remembers that she tells people she's a fallen angel. People have different reasons for telling people different things and she's not going to judge. ]

I want to be near you. I like you, Pit-chan. You're my friend. And I'm certain that a bunch of other people here think the same way. So why not dream about relationships and stuff like that?

[flask]

[Nott sighs.]

Yes, I know I have you and... several others who don't mind what I look like. And I appreciate that.

I'd just rather be realistic about these things.

[hellzone]

There's a difference between being realistic and being a downer.

Well, I'm sorry my life is sad to you, but it was sort of decided for me.

[At least it hopefully won't be forever. Someday she'll be a real halfling. Caleb's sure to do her the solid on the way to achieving his goals.]

[hellzone]

It might've been decided back home, but not here.

Well, I suppose I could also ask the Natha to turn me into something else...

Or you could stay yourself! Look, I dunno what it was like for goblins back in your world. I get that it probably sucked and sucked a lot. But we're not back in your world, are we. Stop thinking that people are gonna think like they thought back home cause they obviously won't!

[Nott looks flatly at Yohane over the video, looking a bit put out. There's a fundamental misunderstanding going on here over the real issue with Nott being a goblin.

Does Nott want to broach that topic?

At length, she speaks gently, but with an edge in her voice.]

It doesn't have anything to do with how other people react to me. Or what they think. Not really.

[hellzone]

Then what's the big problem?

[ to her credit, Yoshiko's trying REAL HARD to understand what the problem is. She just doesn't know about the whole goblin everything. ]

[Isn't that the million dollar question?]

...Goblins aren't good people. They're nasty things. They steal children from their beds and cook them in stews. I once saw one of my clan cut out someone's tongue for pronouncing his name wrong. My clan had a torture wagon, where they kept halflings and hurt them for fun and information on how they could torture more halflings. They're as... We're as terrible as we look.

[hellzone]

[ That's...a lot. There's a long pause as Yoshiko tries to grapple Nott's everything with her always chaotic evil race. ]

But you're not like that. You're not terrible. [ right? ]

[flask]

...No. I'm not.

[There are parts of her that are still unmistakably a result of her surroundings growing up—her fearful nature, her kleptomania, other little things—but Nott is far from alike any of her clan and she's well aware of it. Has always been well aware of how she never quite fit.

An accident of birth, maybe. She never thought too closely on it, only that she desperately didn't want to be part of the clan.]

I don't like... looking in the mirror, seeing myself looking like them. They're awful.

[hellzone]

I know that you're the only goblin that I've met. But...considering that you're kind and nice and don't—don't torture people, I just can't believe that all goblins are like how you describe them.

[ there's a small pause before she clarifies. ]

I mean, maybe most of 'em. But not all of them.

[flask]

[Yohane isn't the first person to make this argument to her since she woke up. Nott folds her arms and looks away.]

If your drink's only 75% poison, that's enough reason not to drink it. But trust me, it's at least 99%.

[hellzone]

But if it's 25% strawberry ramune, then you might consider giving it a shot.

[ a pause, before. ]

Strawberry ramune's a type of really good soda, by the way. I dunno if they have it in your world.

[flask]

It would still have poison in it!

[Nott groans.]

And I don't know what soda is, but I wouldn't even drink it if it was whiskey and poison.

...The point is, it's better to be safe than sorry. That's why I don't fault people if they don't trust me.
