Video | UN: Trafalgar

[This is, possibly, the most somber looking child in all of El Nysa. He's got dark, serious eyes shadowed by an odd furry hat that ill suit his small frame. Even his posture is overly business-like for a child that can't be more than twelve years old. Even with all of this, the most striking thing is arguably the splotchy white patches all over his skin.]

Hello. My name's Law and I'm looking for a boat. If you know where I could find one, I'm willing to pay.

[His eyes narrow for a moment, before he adds.]
And I won't answer any questions about why. It's none of your business.

[Those with a keen eye might notice something guarded about the way he carries himself here. Something borne from a deep, pervasive distrust. But at the same time, something distinctively pitiful the way he's clutching a medical textbook the way another child might hold a bear.

Basically: What's with this sassy... lost child?]

[What's with all the broody somber children around suddenly? She thinks of Yusei's bratty self and takes a moment to rub between her eyes before she replies.]

Where are you at. Right now, I mean.

[Law tenses up, clearly unwilling to answer, but after considering the query for a moment, he decides that it was arguably relevant as far as aquiring a boat was concerned.]

It- Somewhere called Wyver.
[He slumps a bit, almost seeming to sulk.]
I don't know anything more specific than that.

[Wooooow. This looks like a baby version of Law! He giggles as he immediately responds to the message, leaning forward like that will help him determine where the boy is better.

Oh! And then the boy says he's Law! He was so cute when he was little!]

Law! Where are you? We can spend time together!

[Why not be kid friends together too? Right?]

You should be able to find them anywhere in Wyver then. There's plenty of waterways that run through the town.

Now whether someone is going to sell you a boat or not is a different issue.

[He seems to be indoors, but if you look closely you might notice some foliage outside of the window that could only be in Wyver. As for Law himself, he's completely thrown off by an unfamiliar face trying to Friend at him.]
Wh- What-

[And then he manages to collect himself enough to go into Defensive Maneuvers.]
Idiot! I didn't ask for anything like that! I don't have time to goof around like some kid!

[He gets a grim look on his face, though it's undercut by the fact that he's 12 and thus incapable of being properly threatening.]
Well if they won't sell it to me I'll just take it by force. That's what pirates do, after all.

[Apparently another thing pirates do is just announce they're pirates on a public network.]

[Wyver! That narrows it down! He will have to head THAT WAY.]

Why not? We're kids right now! It'll be fun!

[He laughs and keeps studying the screen to keep looking for clues.]

So where are you?

Yeah? With what? Just yourself?

[Not that she thinks kids can't be fierce in their own right but... well, she wasn't exactly ready to take on ships when she was 12.]

... Yeah. So what?
[He shifts where he's sitting, looking away from the feed, down to the floor.]

Even if I die trying, it's not like it matters either way. I'll be dead in a few months anyway.
[A pretty morbid thing for a kid to say, even though he sure doesn't look like he's in perfect health.]

["Right now," he says. That's a weird way to phrase it. As if it's going to change soon, or really any time in the future.]

I don't want to have fun. And besides...
[Here, this'll do it for sure. It always scares people off.]

Haven't you heard of Amber Lead Syndrome? If you catch it you'll be dead in a year like me.
[Of course, it's not contagious, but most people don't believe that. They just freak out and run away.]

I won't catch it. I don't get sick.

[He puts his chin on his hand.]

I could just go looking for you. Or you could tell me where you are.

[And the smile is back.]

We're friends. So I can find you!

Wh-
[Friends??? He doesn't have those. He used to, but now they're all dead. Baby 5 and Buffalo might be close to his agem but they certainly weren't his friends. What's the point of being friends with someone with an early expiration date?]

I don't even know you, you're not my friend! And didn't you hear what I just said!? I'm-
[Whatever he was going to yell is interrupted by a fit of coughing. Even this much excitement from shrieking is clearly a toll on his body at this point.]

Sick, right? So you should have a friend with you so you won't be lonely.

[He jumps down from where he's sitting and it's clear he's heading out. He's going to figure out where his friend is.]

Don't worry. I'll be there soon and then I'll be there with you.

I'm not-
[Lonely, that's a word Cora-san had used. That he'd found so truly upsetting about Law. He was the first and only person to really care about things like that since he became this "white monster," but now this random kid too. Still... All for what?

Either way, those loud outbursts get him kicked out of the library, where he'd been. Now he's definitely easier to find, since he's just sitting outside the library on a main street in Wyver, dejectedly leafing through the book he took.]

[Guess who suddenly appears and is sitting cross legged in front of him with a smile on his lips. It's totally this kid right here.

Don't worry. He can wait until he's noticed!]

[WORRY NOT, he's noticed. Law may be a small, sickly nerd, but he's had Training. He notices Threats. And someone appearing suddenly is definitely a Threat. So he responds appropriately by startling, before pulling a knife on the kid, eyes filled with the anxious anger of a cornered animal.]

Oh-
[And the anger vanishes as he processes who it is, though the anxious, guarded edge remains.]

... I already told you, I'm not going to "play" with your or anything stupid like that.

[Instead of showing fear for the knife, he literally just smiles, folding his legs and holding his ankles as he does.]

Why do you think it would be stupid?

[What? It's a fair question.]

[It really is, and not one he's ever really been questioned about before. He's never been discouraged from trying to act like an adult by the rest of the crew. Encouraged, if anything. Back before the disease, before everything, he'd been more focused on his studies, but...]

Things like "fun" and "comfort"... I don't understand them anymore.
[His face darkens as he pulls his knees in to his chest, the heavy textbook between them.]

You can learn a lot from having fun, you know.

[Going over, he sits right down next to Law and bumps shoulders with him. He smiles at him again.]

And I can help you understand comfort again.

[He flinches at the contact.]
Don't talk to me as if you understand anything, you-

[He scowls. Again; who even is this guy!?]
Whoever you are! Just... there's no point.
[Ugh. He slouches, tired. He's not going to let some other idiot fill him with false hope for anything good to happen.]

Well all the stuff on the device things says that I'm Iskandar. But you can call me Alexander.

[He wraps his arms around his knees and rests his cheeks on them.]

You're definitely not gonna make me sick though. Promise.

[...Oof.]

So dying quicker is preferably to say maybe enjoying yourself a little longer?

[Oh woah. This is most certainly the youngest refugee he had seen on this network! And, he'll respect this kids wishes to refrain on asking why... But still...]

Um, I get you paying for what you're asking for but... How did you manage to get enough money to acquire a ship little guy?

[And where the heck are your parents/guardians!?]

That's not what I said.
[He huffs, as if it should be OBVIOUS what he does in fact mean by his words.]

I didn't say I'd prefer dying sooner. Just that it doesn't matter either way. [He scratches idly at one of the white patches on his face.]
Either way, I don't get any enjoyment from living. In the end, I'll be lucky if I lose consciousness before my respiratory system fails and I'm unable to breathe.
[This isn't things a boy should be saying so matter-of-factly.]

[Law huffs softly. Clearly no point in continuing his earlier lie;]
Of course not. It's caused by long-term exposure to a toxic chemical. It isn't contagious.

[He looks over at the other boy, almost as if he's suspicious of his intent. But then, a small concession;]
I'm Law.

[The real secret is: he hasn't and doesn't have enough money to buy a boat.]
That sounds like something that's none of your business unless you have a boat you're willing to part with.

[Outside of this time-distortion all four of them are either dead or in jail which frankly explains a lot about the adult he normally is.]

Oooooh. So you were just making that up.

[He doesn't look upset though and instead just smiles.]

I remember. You said so.

... Eh. Yeah. No.

No I don't unfortunately.

If anything I'm just happy to have my bike. Couldn't imagine what I'd do with a boat.

[SPEAKING OF!]

If you don't mind my asking... What is it you even need a boat for?

More the the world government made it up so that no one would help us.
[He sinks lower where he's sitting, tugging his hat further down over his face, looking even more like some sort of mushroom child with the hat's brim shading his face.

But right, right, he did say his name. But that reminds him of his original objective. A boat, not for any real purpose beyond rebellion. The next thing he says is muttered more than anything;]
And now even Cora-san's gone and left me, too.

I do mind, especially given that you seem to be some sort of lawyer. Just because I'm a kid doesn't mean I'm dumb enough to implicate myself.
[Which.... does imply some sort of suspicious activity, but technically nothing he can be arrested over, which is sort of his point.]

Then it's decided.

[He lowers his knees down and rests back on his hands with a giant smile.]

I won't leave you. I'm here to stay! So, you were looking for a boat, right? Where are we going?

[Because he means what he says. He's staying with his friend Law. End of story. If others leave then he'll make himself the one that doesn't.]

[He doesn't have it in him to protest further. This may as well happen.]

Nowhere. I was told to stay put, so that's the one thing I'm not going to do.
[Teenage rebellion, I guess. The question is, who told him to stay put.]

Well then we are we still sitting here?

[Up he goes, reaching out his hand to offer it to his new friend with a grin.]

Let's go on an adventure!

Excuse you. I'm a defense attorney, not a prosecutor.

[He's the type of lawyer you're supposed to divulge this sort of stuff to in case of implication! Gosh!]

But that's beside the point. If you really wished to convince someone to just sell you a boat wouldn't you need to give them a valid explanation as to what you would be using it for?

[Also YOU. ARE. A. CHILD.

What could you possibly need a while boat for!?]

[He looks like he's about to protest, but then apparently decides it's not worth it. Even if he can't find a boat, maybe this is good enough.]

... Just so you know, this doesn't make us friends.
[Is what he says as he does take that hand, because he does need a bit of help standing up.]

[He doesn't know the difference between a defense attorney and a prosecutor so he's just going to ignore that part.]

Sure. But you said you don't have a boat to sell me, so why should I tell you?
[It's on a need-to-know basis, apparently!]

It doesn't make us not friends though.

[He giggles and helps him up before pointing in a random direction.]

We'll go this way!

[He's technically correct... how dare he. Still, Law trudges after him, content to just follow along and sulk for a bit. After a while though, he does pipe up.]

Don't you have anything better to do?
[Than humor him, or whatever this is. They certainly aren't getting anywhere anytime soon, since his weakened constitution means he can't walk very fast for very long.]

Well... Perhaps there is some way I could help at least?

[Rule 101 to dealing with children: bargain to the childs needs. It's the only way to find out the reason for their behavior.]

I mean, just because I don't have a boat doesn't mean I don't know some people who might. But I don't know why they would possibly want to help if I tell them 'hey some random nine year old wants to take this boat out into the ocean by himself.'

You're my better thing to do! That's what friends are for!

[He gives him a wide grin and a laugh before he trots away a few steps then turns to face him. This time he holds his hand out to him.]

And if you get tired because you're sick then I'll carry you. You won't have to be alone anymore.

[Another big tip is dealing with kids is don't get their ages wrong. Unfortunately for Phoenix, Law's a bit undersized at this age.]

I'm twelve.
[That's like, three years older than nine. A big difference.]

And I know how boats work. I'm a member of the Donquixote Pirates.

[Law isn't exactly completely unused to this pure, blinding kindness, with no catch, but it's still weird, especially since this kid doesn't have nearly as much to base his behavior on the way Corazon did.

He opens his mouth to protest, that he doesn't care about being alone, that he doesn't need help. But apparently being left alone by Corazon here is what made him decide to be rebellious, isn't it. He makes a face, but takes the hand.]

Alright... thank you.
[Begrudging, almost mumbled, but still said.]

Oh! I'm sorry! What a horrible mistake for me to make! I'll make sure to rectify it.

[Man he forgot how fun it was talking to kids this young. None the less, he was determined to get to the bottom of this kids need for a boat.]

None the less, that doesn't solidify why anyone would want to sell a boat to you. Also advertising that your a pirate is probably only going to make people want to sell to you even less. So I'd keep on the down low about that if I were you.

[This kid is cute.]
