Video - UN: ashfalls
I don't understand it.
[It's probably pretty late at night when she shows up on the video feed. She's looking better than she did right after the fight anyway. Her face on the video is still bandaged but the bruises and wounds that were visible before are almost entirely gone. She could be fully healed but she'd declined most healing, opting just for enough to keep her alive and deciding to rely on her pewter and Allomancy for the rest.]
This world has everything. The air and the skies are clear, the water is clean, things grow freely here. It isn't perfect, maybe, but it's still a place where people can just live.
[She frowns, but as melancholy as she seems her voice still sounds hard. She's not just lamenting what happened, it could be said she looks like somebody trying to work out a puzzle.]
So why would somebody want to destroy it like that? No matter how hard I think about it, I can't make any kind of sense about it.
Or maybe I was just naive to think somebody like that couldn't exist in a place like this too.
[She shakes her head, sighing, and shakes her head before cutting off the video though her expression still looks as troubled as before.]
Nevermind. I'm rambling.

That's the part I don't understand. Destroying everything.

[She gives a short chuckle, murmuring to herself.]
So, this is what it's like on the other side of that.
no subject
[Because boy, that pain would block anything out even if she tried to listen.]
And I sincerely doubt any reason was worth all of that.

But mostly it's 'cause they're huge dicks.

[And she stops, because she remembers that username and the voice but the last time they'd talked it had been, well, only voice and now.
Before she can stop herself.]
Are you a cat?

[Is it possible to sound matter-of-fact about a man being killed by a monster? Apparently so. Needless to say, she doesn't mourn his death a bit.]
At least that's one problem that solved itself.

You can't be surprised by this, can you?

[She pauses, frowning while she tries to put what she's feeling into words eventually going for it.]
I'm not under any illusions either. Where I came from people would hurt and kill each other but there was always a reason. The reason was probably horrible but it was there.
I guess you could say I don't understand what that reason is here.

[She rolls her eyes there.]
Those types always do though.
[She's mostly thinking of Ozai and all of the fallout from the war. Azula might have been on something of the same level as Raysc but... well. In the end, it all was Ozai's fallout, wasn't it? Everything he left behind.]

[ He hates politics. He doesn’t like to get involved, but they are getting very difficult to avoid. ]
There are periods of war and peace everywhere—often followed by more war before more peace, but neither lasts forever. There will be an end to this somehow.

[He gives her a response and then rolls his eyes. He's getting better at this.] Depending on who you ask and the time of day, I'm any number of things, all right? Don't make a thing of it.

It seems like the hard part is still ahead of us though. We just have to put a stop to all of it before something worse happens.

He really wasn't anything special, was he...?
[But then there's the rest and she gets the feeling she'd make a mistake somewhere. She's still curious but....]
I didn't mean anything by it. I've just never seen... someone like you.
[Most people here still seem to be human.]

Until it starts all over again, that's what you're saying. [She frowns.] Except I don't think there's going to be an "again" if these people have their way.

[ He pauses, looking thoughtful. ]
But a dragon is not usually involved, so far as I know, but details are minor and it is very possible that history glossed over those particular components.

[He's naturally dry and sardonic, but also so used to this he can't even be annoyed.]

[ they never have and they never will. ] There's no point in thinking too much about it

[Why else call a dragon to destroy everything?]

There's always gonna be some asshole who wants to mess it up for the rest of us.
Power hungry people who don't think of anything past what they think they stand to 'gain' through some dumb ass move like resurrecting a zombie dragon and thinking they're gonna control something like that.
I've seen it a couple times (not the dragon thing, the power thing) and typically it doesn't end well for the ego in question.

[Asseylum's expression is painted rueful.]
I grew complacent, too... The moment I realized that longstanding conflict existed on El Nysa, I knew better than to hold onto the hopes that it would be a perfectly peaceful refuge for us. And yet... [Her eye contact drifts down.] I still clung to them. It was hard not to. My own life, my everyday routine, felt worlds away from the greater strife taking place beyond it. And before I knew it, destruction swallowed us. We were powerless to stop it.
