For one, the former is quantifiable, the latter is not. How do you measure the weight or mass of a soul? The amount of data will vary, but, looking at omnics for example, we can see just how much data storage is required for a self-aware identity to be assembled. But this is not an immortal one.

A magic ring that's something more. All right. I will keep that in mind.
