 So... I think we've all been trying to get to know each other, right? That seems like a great idea! Since we're all stuck in this same boat together and all. [Translation: Can we please talk about something, anything other than killing people? She's still not sure if you're all just joking or if serious.

She's not sure which would be creepier.]

So, what sort of things does everyone like to do for fun? I know we kinda had that on the magic nametags we were given, but we've all got hobbies, right? Maybe we can still do them here! 

I like to cook, I was on the high dive and swim team back home, I was part of a singing group with my friends, I love clothes and costumes and designing fashion, and one day I want to be a ship captain like my dad! 

What kind of things were you all into where you came from? Anything fun you want to get up to?

Cheerleading, for me. But, um, I didn't last very long. Other stuff got in the way. But clothes, clothes are good. I would kill for a mall trip right about now.

[ayes]

Yeah, I know how that goes. I had to quit the diving team to join my friend for the singing group... gotta wish you had more than 24 hours in a day, right? [Because school idols are totally equivalent to vampire slayers.]

I saw some really cute clothes at the market! It's not a mall but it's the next best thing, right?

I need to figure out how to earn some money here.

Uh, the bulletin boards, they had some postings. I don't know about singing and swimming, but a high school diploma has to be worth something around here. Maybe we could hit the pavement together and go look at our options.

[ayes]

Oh, did they? I'll have to check it out! [She pauses.] Uh, I... don't have my high school diploma yet. I'm still in second year.

[slay]

At the risk of being the bad influence, I don't think they're going to be asking for paperwork. All things considered. So ... they don't really have to know that.

[ayes]

Huh. That's a good point. I mean, when you think about it, we really could tell them anything about what we used to do, right? [A pause.] Though... I think if we made something up entirely, they'd find out pretty quick, right? So maybe we'll stop at the diploma thing.

[slay]

I wouldn't get too ambitious in the direction of, say, architecture or brain surgery, but yeah. Probably. You know better than anybody here what you have the skills for.

[ayes]

I mean, thinking about it, you don't really need a high school diploma for any of the stuff I'm not too bad at. Sewing, costume design, high diving, dancing...

As long as there's not a lot of math required, I'll be fine.

Why must you all rely on this hunk of junk for a conversation? Wouldn't it make more sense to speak to each other face-to-face?

I mean, isn't it faster this way? Instead of having to have a hundred conversations one on one, you can talk to everyone at once! It's just like your smartphone!

Pfft! I can't see how it's faster. Perhaps if this was just an old fashion telephone, I can see it being somewhat useful. But this gadget is overly complicated and--

[ and... ]

Just like my what? A smartphone? I never owned such a thing...

You didn't have a smartphone back home? Geez... your telephones must be really old fashioned.

Were they still the kind with the circle you had to dial with?

[slay]

Sewing! Bet there's all kinds of jobs for that. Everybody needs clothes, right? Unless they're nudists, I guess.

[ayes]

I sure hope so! Everyone I've seen here has been wearing clothes, so if there are any nudist groups around they're... probably on the beach or something. I figure I can get a job doing that at any rate, right?

[slay]

Definitely. How about when we hit the market for new clothes, we look for a job for you too?

[ayes]

[You, you don't wanna know. And considering he doesn't have many hobbies that don't in some way pertain to his creepy, creepy job, he'd rather talk about yours.]

What kind of ship does your father sail?

[ayes]

A big ferry! It's not quite as big as a cruise ship, but it's still pretty darn impressive! He goes all along the coastline and to some of the outlying islands. When I was a kid, I always loved going up to the tops of the cliffs and waiting 'til I could see the top of the ship on the horizon!

[He chuckles.] I'm not sure what a cruise ship is, but it's very large, I take it? Does he move cargo or passengers?

Smart phones? You mean phones that actually work?

[ Because dumb phones = broken phones? Right? Right? ]

No. My phone had a number pad. I'm not that old...

No, they're like... computers in your pocket? Sorta? They've got a big touch screen and they run all sorts of neat apps.

You really don't know them?

[ayes]

Oh yeah, they're huge! They're the biggest passenger boats on the ocean! Cruise ships are like giant floating hotels and they've got dining halls and movie theaters and big pools and all sorts of stuff to do! [She sounds genuinely enthusiastic about this.] But my dad's ferry is more for people. I mean, sometimes he'll get delivery trucks or moving trucks or something but that's pretty rare! Most of the cargo he gets is just peoples' stuff they're bringing with them.

[agradecido]

[THAT IS OKAY he has another acquaintance who loves ships just as much. You lost him at "movie theater" tho.]

That sounds more like a seabound castle. Pools...like a gazing pool?

[ayes]

[She doesn't even skip a beat.] Yeah, something like that! Uhhh, no walls or cannons or... horses, or anything like that. [She has no idea what a castle usually has.] It's more like a swimming pool! See, they're usually deep in the ocean so you can't go in the water 'cause you'll get left behind and then you're in trouble, so they're for people to go swimming in! So it's kinda funny when you think about it, having a pool of water for swimming inside a boat, which is inside the ocean, haha!

On the contrary, that's really quite remarkable. [He sounds pretty awed by the concept.]

I've never seen a castle with cannons, however...But I've also never been far enough north to see Par Vollen. Perhaps the Qunari have cannons on their castles?
