( it's not been horribly long since Diana poked around the network, and surprise surprise, she's still ignoring the fact there is a voice and text function. she will look upon the faces of those she speaks to, tyvm!

she's dressed in the dark black of the city guard, her hair pinned up and a sparkling brooch at her cloak, though her fingers are already toying with it as she speaks. )

I see that our numbers have grown greater. My name is Diana of Themyscira, and I bid you all welcome, both faces old and new. If you need aide during your displacement, then I offer what knowledge I have. You need but ask.

( that said, it's not exactly why she's here, though her note is just as important with so many more that might need to learn how to protect themselves. )

It has come to my attention that there are many in our midst that know little in the way of defense. Or, perhaps not enough, in a world with so many dangers lingering just out of sight. It troubles me to think that there are those that may not know how to protect themselves, especially if they possess a desire to learn.

( which brings her to her purpose, an important one at that. Diana seems gifted at finding herself a purpose. )

I am an amazon, well trained in the art of war. Archery, swordplay, use of a shield, riding, hand to hand, more. If there are those that would learn, I would be happy to show what I know. It will not be simple, and the training will be difficult. Still, if you would learn, I will make you an amazon. This is more than a style of defense, it is a family. You will gain both if you learn from me.

( her piece said, Diana crosses her arms. )

But, hey, you seem well-qualified. I'm not much of a fighter, but I guess if this world is as dangerous as you say, I probably shouldn't be totally helpless.

No need to apologize. I simply wish to understand it better. There is much in modern worlds I have yet to experience.

( she feels as if she's playing catch-up, a difficult task when the world they're in now is not necessarily as modern as the one most remember. )

( the granddaughter of Zeus, that's quite a distinction! )

[ Okay, that's new. She's certainly met people before who know the story, recognize her name from it, maybe even make a joke about it or something. But uh, not expecting someone to actually think she's the mythological princess. ]

Um. [ She laughs. ]

No, I mean, uh. My mom is a classics professor - that is, she teaches Greek and Roman mythology and stuff. I'm just regular old Ariadne, daughter of Jane and Mike, from Vancouver. I do like mazes, though.

( well... perhaps that is a little bit of a stretch. Ariadne is a name she recognizes but it makes sense that she'd be a hard girl to meet. )

Befitting your namesake, then. Greek mythology... as if it is a myth.

( that's weird for poor Diana, because it is not a myth for her, clearly. at least that's not the first time she's heard of such things, Steve burst that bubble awhile ago. )

[ Yeah, encountering someone who doesn't think of the myth as a myth is... a little weird. ]

Yeah, uh, in my world it... it was just a myth. Or if it was ever true, it was thousands of years ago.

Amazons were forced to hide from humanity for quite some time. Perhaps that is true in your world as well.

( Diana hopes so, but... it is hard to speak for certain on a world she is not sure she's ever been to. )

Ah, I don't know. I mean, I've heard of amazons, but as far as I'm aware, in my world they're just a myth. But - maybe. People in my world believed in all kinds of things.

That would be no different than the world outside of Themyscira in my world, though I suppose it is not impossible that for some, it is simply a story.

( it seems difficult for her to consider, though, but is that a surprise? it is not an easy thought, that your existence is a tale to someone else. )

Huh. I mean - given what I've seen in the past few days, I'd say anything is possible. So like - the gods are real where you're from?

They were, yes.

( not exactly a delightful story, though Diana is not unwilling to share, just ... perhaps not like this. )

[ She seems kind of sad about that. She must've liked the gods. ]

( she is. all the tales Diana knows were told to her as a girl by her mother. it inspired a great deal of child-like awe. )

It happened before I was made, but they died to protect my people. Their sacrifice must be remembered.

Huh. Well... I guess you're here, and you remember. Maybe we're all a little in the same boat here - we have to be the ones to remember our respective worlds.

That is true. There is much that could be lost to the storm if we do not hold it in our thoughts.

( a rather miserable thought, but an important one. )

My apologies, Ariadne. My thoughts seem to have run away with me. Would you be free to start lessons tomorrow?

It's fine. I'm still... trying to deal with it all, myself.

[ Mostly she's dealing by trying not to think too much about it, but that's just not always possible. ]

I have had months to try and reconcile the possibility, and I do not find it any easier now than I did then.

( and she does still hold onto the flicker of hope that she can reverse the damage by killing Ares, but it is impossible for her faith to be as blind after months of this new existence, and no sign of the God of War. )

A friend of mine has a training space. I will send you directions. We will meet in the morning, better to avoid the heat if we can.
